Jesus: Through the Eyes of His Mother

In the season of Advent, we wait. We wait in great anticipation for the arrival of the Christ Child, the baby Jesus, who enters the world fully human and fully divine. For many, it is the divine Jesus they know best, the Jesus of miracles, revelations and resurrection. In this workshop, we will explore the humanity of Jesus as seen through the eyes of his mother. Let us wait with Mary, inspired by images of her from around the globe, past and present. We will let those images help us to imagine the on-going relationship Jesus had with his mother, how she taught him, what he learned from her, how they might have laughed and clashed and loved in the messiness of a human mother/son relationship.

Please join us for our 16th annual Nativity Exhibit celebrating generosity, the Spirit of Christmas. Each year we consider different aspects of the Christmas story and the way it is celebrated. As we look at elements of the story throughout time and place, we learn how many have brought their own particular experiences to the celebration. Familiar figures and gifts may have their origins in earlier cultures, stories, and beliefs but they all become part of honoring the Holy Family and the first Christmas night in Bethlehem. Admission is free-Our Christmas gift to you!

We are partnering with Fr. Michael to promote this new project and offer an enhanced way to experience it. Continuing his journey on the Valencia route to Santiago on the Camino in Spain, Michael Fish presents the second set of video “days’”. The videos stand alone in terms of topic and meaning; it is not necessary to have seen the Levante 1 if you wish to join in this retreat.

Part One: Overview of Prayer forms Thursday, Feb 23, 7:30-8:30pm is hosted by all Los Angeles retreat centers with introductions by Dr. Michael Cunningham and brief descriptions of coming-weeks’ prayer programs by retreat center leaders.

Centering prayer is often called the Prayer of Consent, as it represents our willingness to be open to God. A willingness that is without agenda or needs, just a desire to rest in God’s presence. This session will provide an introduction to Centering Prayer led by Dr. Michael Cunningham OFS, a certified Centering Prayer instructor from Contemplative Outreach, and will provide background, method and practice.

Lenten Reflections 2023 Part Three ~ Lectio Divina

This presentation will examine the tradition of Lectio Divina. Lectio Divina means Sacred Reading of God’s Word. I will offer several passages from the Bible that you may consider for future references. Tonight, we will be looking at the Upper Room Experience, where Jesus called his disciples together to celebrate the Last Supper. We will read this text three times and meditated upon it. Questions will be provided for shared reflections. Then consider how this impacts our life and does it move us to some activity that will help build up the Kingdom of God. Hosted by Fr.
