A leisurely stroll down a winding path, the soft rustle of leaves, and the gentle chirps of nature—this is the experience that awaits in the Retreat Center Gardens. Designed as a serene sanctuary, the gardens offer a peaceful escape where worries fade with each step and space opens up for quiet reflection and spiritual renewal.
The Main Garden
The heart of our outdoor space is the main garden—a lush, meandering landscape designed to awaken the senses and calm the spirit. A winding path guides visitors through an ever-changing tapestry of native plants, vibrant flowers, fragrant herbs, towering trees, and thoughtfully placed meditation spaces.
Each turn reveals something new: a cluster of blooming roses, a quiet bench tucked beneath a canopy of shade, or a vibrant display of succulents and drought-tolerant plants that thrive in the Southern California sun. Mature trees provide both beauty and refuge, their branches offering shelter for birds and shade for those seeking rest and reflection.
Lovingly maintained by our dedicated staff, and enriched over the years through generous plant donations, the garden continues to evolve while honoring its original purpose: to provide a sacred space for peace, healing, and quiet contemplation.
Lounge Garden
Tucked just outside the main Lounge, this intimate prayer garden offers a peaceful extension of the indoor space. Surrounded by greenery and shaded seating, it’s a natural gathering spot for quiet reflection before or after a retreat session. The sound of nearby birds and the gentle movement of leaves create a calming backdrop for prayer, journaling, or simply sitting in stillness. This space invites guests to carry the peaceful energy of the Lounge into nature, offering a seamless transition from group fellowship to personal communion.
St. Joseph’s Garden
At the top of the property, near the covered deck, St. Joseph’s Garden offers a quiet, sacred stillness. Elevated above the rest of the grounds, this secluded garden is ideal for those seeking solitude and spiritual renewal. Whether seated in prayer, reading, or reflecting in silence, visitors are surrounded by the beauty of nature and the calming sense of perspective that comes with a higher view.
A Quiet Deck to Unwind
At the very top of our property, you’ll find a covered deck designed for those moments when you simply want to relax. Whether you’re sipping on a refreshing beverage, engrossed in a good book, or enjoying some quiet time by yourself, this space offers the perfect retreat from everyday busyness.
Courtyard Garden Path
Nestled between the retreatant rooms and the Chapel, this peaceful courtyard garden offers a quiet passageway for reflection and prayer. Lined with greenery, flowers, and gentle pathways, it serves as a natural transition from rest to worship. Whether beginning the day with a slow, mindful walk or winding down in the evening light, this serene path invites a deeper sense of presence as guests make their way toward the Chapel. It’s a space to prepare the heart, quiet the mind, and move gently into sacred stillness.
City Overlook
Tucked in near the front entrance of the property, the City Overlook offers a stunning panoramic view of Los Angeles—especially breathtaking at sunset, when the sky is awash in gold and soft pink hues. Benches invite you to sit, reflect, and take in the vastness of the city below, offering a powerful reminder of both perspective and presence. Whether you’re ending your day in prayer or simply soaking in the stillness, this hidden gem is a favorite spot for guests seeking beauty, solitude, and a sense of awe.
Labyrinth Bonaventure
The stone labyrinth offers a sacred space for walking meditation, prayer, and quiet reflection. Designed as a single, winding path to the center and back out again, it serves as a physical and spiritual journey—a chance to slow down, breathe deeply, and listen inwardly. Located near additional walking trails and meditation spots, the labyrinth invites guests to step away from distraction and return to a place of stillness and clarity.
Outdoor Terrace
Nestled at the highest point of our property, the upper outdoor terrace is a peaceful gathering space surrounded by lush greenery and views of our beautifully landscaped gardens. By day, groups often gather here for breakout activities. By night, the tivoli lights create a festive environment.
