Along the Way Pilgrim Walk

Sue Ballotti & Paul Craig, Labyrinth Facilitators

Join Mary & Joseph Retreat Center for the fifth annual Pilgrim Walk, a 4.8 mile walk through the streets and trails of Palos Verdes to the sacred grounds of the retreat center. As pilgrims, walkers will be blessed, walk to various stations for reflection and to have passports stamped. Modeled after the famous pilgrimage, “the Way”, to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, this half day walk is adapted to our own time and neighborhood. All ages and faiths welcome. All activities will be outdoors. Schedule: 7 am registration opens, 7:30 blessing of all pilgrims, first groups depart, walk in a calm meditative way, 11:30: closing prayer and grace, picnic lunch at noon.

SoulCollage® is a gentle, intuitive, creative process that involves creating small collage cards that participants use as a powerful tool for ongoing self-reflection, self-awareness and community building. Through the use of images, symbols, and pictures from magazines and periodicals and other sources, the participants in this workshop will engage in the reflective process to create collage cards, that they can use as tools for prayer, meditation & connecting with their inner spirituality or soul wisdom. As part of the workshop, we will integrate the labyrinth of Mary & Joseph Center. We will provide the materials – magazines, scissors, glue sticks, SoulCollage®cards, etc.

Retreatants will experience a deeper connection with nature, God, themselves, and leave with a plan of action for creating more Joy with nature in this workshop. They will achieve this through a series of nature experiences, mindfulness, prayer, journaling, sharing, & the discovery of what kind of “bird” they might be. This workshop is meant for anyone interested in improving their relationship with nature & God and interested in helping migrate the effects of climate change. Participants should be able to walk or move for up to 10 minutes in various periods in the natural environment.

Beginning with a review of previous sessions so anyone can attend, this workshop will teach the steps to FORGIVENESS as determined by the Stanford Forgiveness Projects. Lecture and guided practice will be offered. Bill Wilson (cofounder of AA) discusses forgiveness - he calls it “letting go of resentment”. It’s not done to please others, but in the interest of freedom - theirs and ours. A life which includes deep resentment leads only to futility and unhappiness. Learn about the process of forgiveness ~ 1. what it is and what it is not, how to forgive them and ourselves. Workshop will focus on positive intention, unenforceable rules, and decision & action as tools for the forgiveness process.

Carl Jung suggested “The Spirit is the antidote to spirits.” Bill Wilson states in the Big Book “…our way of living has its advantages for All.” Attendees ~ will experience the process for radical personal change in the way they think, feel and behave; will identify sources of serial suffering and chronic unhappiness; will learn about resources and tools for healing and a life that flourishes; will practice the skills and actions which establish and foster a sense of well-being and joy. Who should attend? · ALL who are interested in improving the QUALITY of their life; especially those in any 12 Step Fellowship. Honestly ask yourself: Are you experiencing serial suffering? Are you ‘restless, irritable and discontent’? Unhappy? Do you find yourself repeating certain self-defeating patterns?
